With hybrid and electric vehicles swarming the market, the importance of wireless charging is becoming important to automakers across the board. And, while we've been hearing a good bit about wireless charging for quite some time, there hasn't yet been a huge push to put it on the market. Until now. Toyota recently partnered with tech company WiTricity to provide wireless charging to drivers everywhere.

Speaking of WiTricity's mission, the company's CEO, Eric Giler, explains, "WiTricity's mission is to make wireless charging available as widely as possible, and this announcement is a significant step toward accomplishing that mission. We envision a world in which wireless charging accelerates the adoption of clean, green electrified vehicles. To have Toyota, the world's leading carmaker, licensing our intellectual property, underscores the importance of the technology."1

Toyota first began working with WiTricity about three years ago, and Toyota actually helped the company raise capital. Toyota hopes to include wireless charging as an option for the next-generation Prius Plug-In, but we'll have to wait and see if the technology is read in time.

WiTricity has been working with other automakers and companies as well, including Mitsubishi, Delphi and Audi.

What do you think, reader? Would you be interested in driving a vehicle that could be charged wirelessly instead of having to plug your hybrid or EV in? Leave Lithia Toyota of Klamath Falls a comment, and let us know! In the meantime, why not drop by and take the new Toyota Prius for a spin?
