The aim of Toyota’s CSRC, or Collaborative Safety Research Center, is as follows: to partner “with leading universities, hospitals, research institutions and federal agencies” to focus on “safety research projects aimed at developing and bringing to market new and advanced safety technologies.”
To be clear, Toyota’s CSRC is not just launching one research project, but rather, eleven. The safety-oriented arm of Toyota is partnering with eight elite research institutions throughout the United States.
Chuck Gulash, the Director of CSRC has this to say about the new projects: “…we are proud to help realize the promise of advanced mobility solutions and a safe, convenient transportation future.”
The research projects are going to focus on what impact advanced technology has on road safety trends and the way in which humans and machines communicate and interact with each other. This is not the CSRC’s first round of projects. It has launched and completed 44 research projects with 23 different universities to date. However, these new projects mark the beginning of CSRC Next, the CSRC’s newest five-year program, the goal of which is to support a “safer transition to the future of mobility.
