Today, we know that the Prius and its different variants offer all of us in Klamath Falls, OR options and high levels of fuel economy. Now, the model can be seen just about everywhere, but it's been a long way to the top, and today, we have reason to celebrate.

Why is that? Well, the Prius recently moved past the three million vehicles sold worldwide mark, and it's a pretty big deal.

We saw the first Toyota hybrid arrive in 1997, but officially came to places like Lithia Toyota of Klamath Falls in 2003. The first- and second- generation models chugged along, selling 1.2 million in eight years. But, it was the third-generation, which introduced the Prius c and Prius v, which really got the ball rolling. From 2009 up to the present, Toyota has sold 1.7 million Prius models and counting.

That's certainly a good thing, and there's plenty more to come. The automaker has invested $7.9 billion in research to make the Prius a much more advanced model by looking in to new engine, platform, and technology options that can go on the fourth-generation model, coming in 2015 or 2016. Also, we'll have the benefit of more availability with production moving stateside like many other new Toyota vehicles.
