As our favorite automaker's 50-millionth customer will surely tell you, the brass at Toyota are no stranger to giving back. It's just one of the many reasons we're so very proud of them here at Lithia Toyota of Klamath Falls, and now that they're joining forces with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the nation, the pride just continues to grow.

If this is all coming as news, it's all part of the annual Toyota Green Initiative (TGI) tour. This year, Toyota will be visiting 27 HBCU campuses as a way to promote the benefits of adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle and empower African American communities in turn. Furthermore, 22 of the institutions will be signing a one-year lease for a 2013 Toyota Prius.

Each of the 22 HBCUs will use their new hybrids for campus-related administrative use. As for why Toyota would take such a vested interest in the carbon footprint of these American educational facilities, it's just one more way they're working to make the world a greener place.

"As the Toyota Green Initiative begins its fourth year, we wanted to provide historically black institutions with a product that would help improve campus environment and promote sustainability," says Jim Colon, vice president of Toyota Product Communications. "With low emissions and improved fuel economy, we are proud to provide these HBCUs with one of the Prius family of vehicles for the 2013-2014 school year."1

So if you'd like to learn more about how the Prius can make a difference in your life, we'd be happy to fill you in at our dealership here in Klamath Falls, OR. After all, you can't put a price on education.
